BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD) – Baton Rouge General (BRG) has started a campaign to encourage men to care more about their health. To begin the campaign, a free screening will be held on Saturday to kick it off.

BRG’s Bluebonnet campus will have a free event with screenings, “Ask the Expert” stations, and activities such as coffee tastings from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 6. At the event, participants will be able to have:

  • Cholesterol, lucose and blood Pressure Test
  • Grip strength and balance assessment
  • Body fat percent scale and waist circumference check
  • Ask the Experts: sports medicine, primary care, urgent care, oncology, colon and rectal surgery
  • Allergy screening with The Allergy, Asthma & Sinus Center
  • Create your ideal hydration/IV therapy “cocktail” card
  • Test out your upper body strength with UpTown Climbing

“We know that men tend to delay seeking healthcare and ignore their symptoms, so just thinking and talking about their health is a huge first step for a lot of men,” said Dr. Benjamin Levron, a family medicine physician at BRG.

BRG’s The Healthy Men Project was postponed due to the fourth COVID-19 surge in July. The project aims to motivate men between the ages of 30-50 to be focused on their health and break the stigma of asking for help. After Saturday, men can sign up for the project, which officially begins in January.

By signing up, men will:

  • Receive regular e-mail check-ins with health tips, local perks, and an easy way to share the progress they’ve made, no matter how big or small
  • Have access to a host of benefits, from a t-shirt and nutrition consult to free classes and hydration therapy discounts
  • Share steps to get healthier each month

By sharing their improvements, participants will be entered to win the grand prize, a Traeger grill, along with gift cards.

“Joining The Healthy Men Project is not just about lowering your blood pressure or losing a few pounds. There are a lot of ways to start making healthier choices, like drinking less alcohol, checking in on your mental health, or investing in a treadmill.”

The event is free, but registration is required.
