Twenty years ago, a Hutchinson man, fed up with corporate life, quit his job, bought a how-to tape to learn a new trade and started pounding the streets – looking for customers for his new auto repair business.
Two decades later, Frank Sell is starting another business – selling coffee with a dose of inspiration.
Sell realized his passion – to inspire others to fulfill their dream.
“I chose to blaze my own path and take responsibility for my future,” Sell said. “If there’s one thing I’ve learned from sharing my story, it’s watching people light up.”
In September, Sell sold 3,000 cans of his cold coffee product – one month later, he was sold out. Sell attributes his success to his attitude and work ethic. His company, Home of the Hustle, sells 7.5-ounce cans of coffee, which consists of coffee, coconut milk and sweetener as well as ground coffee infused with chocolate, orange and peppermint.
A few years ago, Sell created a beard oil, the Baby Beard Club, in which he infuses essential oils into the beard oil. He has one for growth, another for focus and another for mood. He sells the product online and at Hayden’s Salon and Legend’s Barbershop, both on Main Street in Hutchinson.
Focus on your dreams
Although the car repair business and beard oil products were doing fine, Sell thought coffee would help him get his word out – when you focus on the small steps, you can climb any mountain.
It did not take Sell long to come up with his product’s name – Get S— Done! A factory in Wichita, Bev-Hub, packages his brew, which he sells in the greater Hutchinson area – including Hollys’s Sweet Treats, Scuttlebutt’s Coffee, Salt City Brewing and Smith’s Market.
After the New Year, Sell has plans to distribute his brew throughout Kansas.
“I’m selling permission to get s— done,” Sell said. “Adversity is here to equip you or whip you.”
Sell understands that he is not only selling a product, but he is selling inspiration. He started his company with a high school education and ambition.
“You do it scared until you can do it skilled,” Sell said. “There is so much to learn, but I’m willing to make the mistakes one step at a time.”
Sell’s next step is to manufacture individual coffee pods. With each product containing motivational sayings, Sell is hoping to help people realize their dreams. He even calls his coffee the ‘Official Coffee of the American Dream.’
“It looks like I know what I’m doing,” he said. “I have an educated guess, but I’m just a knucklehead swinging a bat.”
Sell enjoys meeting people, telling his story and sharing his dream. He hopes to one day sell his product nationwide and help others to go after their goals by doing as opposed to dreaming.
“Good business makes a product; great business makes a difference,” Sell said. “I beat the d— street so hard, I swear I’ll get a bill for the potholes.”
