The best in Wellington hospitality vie for top honours

Even without Covid-19 locking down businesses it can be hard to get a seat in Wellington’s most popular restaurants and, with the announcement of finalists for the 2021 Felix Wellington Hospitality Awards, your favourite table may soon be in even more demand.

Twenty awards ranging from best barista to most outstanding maitre’d will be voted for by owners and workers in Wellington hospitality establishments and suppliers.

An additional People’s Choice award will be decided by popular vote and the winners revealed at an awards evening, scheduled for September 19 at Te Papa.

Marisa Bidois,? of the Restaurant Association of New Zealand, said that despite challenging times the hospitality industry continued to deliver exceptional dining experiences across the capital.

“The awards are an opportunity to recognise those providing an exceptional experience to the dining community and spread the word about the amazing places there are to drink and eat in the city,” Bidois said.

Shepherd Restaurant in Eva St is in the running for four awards this year with chef Shepherd Elliot? and Maitre d Chelsea Godinet both current finalists and previous winners.

Elliot? said he was proud of the work his whole team put into the restaurant. He was particularly pleased for chef Kyle Camara?, nominated for Best Emerging Chef this year.

“He’s worked very hard in the background for the last three years, so I’m really hoping he gets recognised,” Shepherd said.
