An announcement by Chaffee County Public Health Special Projects Coordinator Mike Orill offers the community a new substance abuse recovery resource for the four-county area of Chaffee, Custer, Fremont, and Lake Counties. “Peer Empowered Recovery Community Solutions” (PERCS) is an independent recovery community organization launched in October 2020. It offers free peer recovery coaching services for those seeking recovery from problematic substance use.
A PERCS recovery coach is a trained individual who has lived experience with addiction and recovery; a person who can provide one-to-one strength-based support to peers seeking to begin and sustain long-term recovery.
“We are intimately familiar with the struggle of this journey and are here to help ‘bridge’ the gaps that are encountered in early recovery that often cause us to stumble,” reads their service description. “We walk with our clients, meeting them where they are, sharing our experiences, helping others reach their goals in recovery and beyond. ”
For those living near Cañon City, PERCS also operates a Recovery Community Center located at 714-1/2 Main Street that is open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Recovery services and medication-assisted treatment is offered at this location.
Their broad invitation Builds on their PERCs initials: “Our coaches demonstrate that recovery is possible. When you’re ready, we’re here. Feel free to drop in for a chat and a good cup of coffee.”
