Portland coffee shop vaccine clinic draws big crowd

Little Woodfords Coffee Shop in Portland set up a pop-up vaccination clinic Saturday for COVID-19 booster and flu shots.This is the second clinic set up by the shop, with the first coming last Monday. Saturday’s turnout was large, with the line for shots stretching well past the block on Congress Street and Franklin Street.The clinic is in conjunction with Local Roots Health Care, a Kennebunk company whose mission it is to bring primary care to local communities.The shop owner, who is also a Portland city councilor, says that with demand for booster appointments high, clinics like this are a great way to expand access.”If they had an appointment already for a booster, it was canceled because there’s a scarcity of resources, or a lot of people were booked out well into January,” said owner and city councilor Andrew Zarro. “And with the holidays right around the corner and already happening, it’s important to make sure folks are vaccinated and boosted.” Zarro hopes the shop can put on more clinics in the future, and says that other local businesses are beginning to set up clinics of their own.
